Increase of Revenue for Municipalities When Fines Are Paid

Tshwane community safety MMC Grandi Theunissen stated that R5 million in fines were issued during the December holiday season to restore law and order.

102 businesses violated safety and health regulations. 9,210 infringement notices totaling over R5 million were issued.

The Tshwane metro police made arrests for illegal trading, drunk driving, and reckless driving.

Theunissen stated that fine payments would raise revenue for the municipality, which has experienced financial difficulties due to high debt levels and decreased revenue collection.

Minister Fikile Mbalula announced that 1,451 people died on roads during the 2022/23 festive season, down from 1,685 deaths in 2021/22.
